Melinda McCrea's dream of teaching is thwarted when her stepfather moves the family to boomtown Monte Cristo, high in the Cascade Mountains. Quin takes Melinda and Evan to safety in the new city of Everett. He asks her to marry him. Then an unexpected turn of events puts college within Melinda's reach.
