Publisher's Synopsis

Two strong women find themselves in the midst of an ancient war. One, a perfect warrior and councillor of a warlord and the other as slave and secret counsellor in the household of one of his aristocratic opponents. The women share the same bleak future and are part of the same expedition. The story is narrated by Morgan, who is in constant connection with all the members of the group, leader of the expedition and captain of the time-submarine Hekate. They all came from that bleak future and now are trying to change history in a way, that mankind in that future will survive. Their instructions are to prevent Rome to grow larger than the peninsula of Italy. The idea is to create a less belligerent humanity. Carthage is considered more peaceful than Rome, because they were primarily traders and not warriors like Rome. But Morgan and the action teams soon find out that brutality and lack of respect for human life are quite common on both sides. In the midst of this all Morgan and the action teams desperately try to stay on top of things. Morgan's group is present at the birth of the city of Carthage. They are there when Gallic troops conquer Rome and travel together with Hannibal across the Alps and monitor and try to steer his battles with Rome. They see and experience cruelties they never heard of before. Sometimes they barely escape with their lives. The two heroines see their characters change in this adventure that spans over five centuries. One of them gets pregnant; the other will turn into a murderess and pays a high prize. This story offers a clear insight in the world of ancient, superstitious Rome and Carthage.
