Two historical figures illuminate her search. Willa Cather was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist. Mary Baker Eddy was a spiritual healer who founded the church Lamy is investigating. They tangled briefly in 1906-07, when Cather was a young journalist working on a controversial profile of Eddy.
Lamy's investigation leads to romance, then tragedy, then the revelation of a dark family history. Searching for healing, combing the lives of Cather and Eddy for clues, can she escape her past and emerge whole and free?
