Publisher's Synopsis
This study is the last in a series of three volumes dealing with key issues of the global distribution of capacities to generate, assess, and use information. The studies are the results of a four year project initiated and funded by the United Nations University and is based on an international network of some twenty researchers and institutions in sixteen countries.;The problems of oversupply, even the surfeit of information, is perceived as being increasingly fragmented and unmanageable in a world which at the same time is increasingly complex. The problem of low information use and accessibilty by those who are objectively most in need of information are also examined. This volume focuses on the Chinese modernization process and the policy issues in meeting its information needs.
