Publisher's Synopsis

The revolution in information systems technology has resulted in the creation of whole new departments, new types of jobs, major investments in hardware and software and changes in the way that people think about systems. These changes have resulted in fundamental alterations to the way in which organisations operate and compete. Many senior managers received their education and early work experience in an age which preceded the wide-scale introduction of computer technology and the situation is complicated by the fact that there are few theoretical paradigms which can be used as a basis for the necessary decision making or for research in the area. In order to further the study of this field, IFIP arranged the ISIS conference, which considered both the practical use of information systems and some of the latest theoretical considerations for their design. The resulting volume has a number of aims: - To assist senior managers with the task of formulating an information systems strategy. - To help the reader benefit from the experience in office automation that has accumulated in recent years.
