The Islamic community has existed for fourteen centuries and now there are one billion Muslims in some sixty countries. In his book Professor Choudhury gives an historical and analytical review of the role of Islam in modern states of the world of Islam.;The author explains the socio-economic order in Islam, presenting the Islamic concept of economic and social justice. He shows that there cannot be any scope for economic exploitation or injustice to any group, and also that Islam recognizes certain basic human rights to all men and women.;He deals with Islam's attitude to other religions and also recognizes the shortcomings and limitations in many Muslim countries.;In the first two chapters, the author has presented the basic principles of Islam and its political, socio-economic order.
