Publisher's Synopsis

Mick Power was brought up along with his younger twin brother and sister on a small urban farm. This was during the nineteen thirties up until nineteen fifty when the farm was taken by Walsall Council to build houses in the post World War Two rush to build decent housing. During this period of his life both his parents had passed away, mother December 1947, father November 1949. The joys and woes of their lives on the farm during the war years, the fun with all their childhood friends and their struggle to try and keep the farm going after their parents died, was the subject of his first book, Podger`s Farm. It Puts Muscles On Your Eyebrows was written as a follow-up. He was seventeen and a half when the farm closed in September 1950 and would have been called up for National Service within six months. On the 27th of September 1950 he signed on in the British army for five years joining the local regiment The South Stafford's at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield. The book covers his progress over those years in both the South Staffordshire and North Staffordshire regiments, serving in Hong Kong, Northern Ireland, West Germany, Trieste, Korea and back to Hong Kong. The book gives the views and life of a common squaddie in the British Army infantry regiment during the early 1950's.
