This is an introduction to Japanese culture using a Japanese traditional card game known as Karuta. Giving thanks to our ancestors on Bon-Festival, New Year resolution on the first sunrise of the New Year, Everybody makes sour faces after popping sour pickled plum in their mouths, are some of the culture topics of these cards. There are two types of cards, e-fuda (picture cards), and sho-fuda (calligraphy cards). The backside of each card is called yomi-fuda (reading cards), and it displays both Japanese and English.
