Publisher's Synopsis

'Last Day in West' is a short fictional account of Anthony Young when he moves away from his hometown in Arunachal to Shantipur. The story is set in the present day West Bengal, which still contains its charisma of the days when it was the capital of British Empire. Anthony's account mostly describes his perspective about his friends and handful of people he meets in Shantipur. One of them is Kishore and his father whom he sees as a typical Bengali. He is from Calcutta who comes to visit his son for a day. The story revolves mostly around three people - Anthony young, his friend Kishore who is a Bengali and Kishore's father whom Anthony prefers to call 'Gaurmohan Babu'. Anthony finally gets to see Calcutta with his own eyes as Gaurmohan Babu invites him to his home. Anthony's outlook is analogous to the views of every Indian who move out of their own 'Dibang valleys' and gets mesmerized by the cultures, traditions and the languages of the west. The story depicts the perspective of every human who are confronted by the new places, peoples and their lifestyles. Sometimes they even have a wrong perception of the other until they see the world with their own eyes.
