This short story looks at life through the eyes of a child (NIHIL). The child's mother lived on a very remote and primitive island. The natives on the island were self sufficient. They supplied their own food. housing and other needs. NIHIL was conceived on that island. Before she was born sailors came to the island, One of them and Nihil's mother conceived Nihil. Oil was discovered on the island and her father had left. Men began pumping oil on the island. The island's resources were destroyed' Nihil's mother could not feed herself or Nihil. She went in search of Nihil's father.Every where she went Nihil's father had recently left. As he continued her search Nihil was born at sea. The mother died shortly after giving birth. She and Nihil were brought to another remote island. Before dying she requested that Nihil be returned to the island where she was conceived.A missionary agreed to take care of Nihil. Since he was a missionary, he travelled to different places. Nihil travelled with him. Each new experience brought new questions from Nihil about money, where it comes from, what value it has. Se also raises questions about our abuse of the environment. All her questions are raised by Nihil in her simple way. She looks at God and God's view of the world and God's mandate to us to take care of the world and the universe.
