But the re?ection of excellence falls gratefully on the universal eye, and stirs to healthy action the universal heart. Com mon humanity asks every aid that can be given. Intellect grows strong by every proof of its supe riority; virtue more lovely by repeated exempli fication. We are bound to the good by the con tinued proofs of excellence they exhibit while living; but death gives increased value to the treasures they bequeathe. These may not be claimed as private right, - to humanity, to the world, they belong henceforth.
