Publisher's Synopsis

Based on a true story. In 1995, two teenagers hitchhike along the West Coast, meeting a cast of characters, some good, some bad, to attend a Grateful Dead concert, an event they'll remember the rest of their lives, along with the characters they've met. LIGHT JOURNEY is a true story of two teenagers, Summer (16) and Emrys (16), who hitchhike along the West coast, in order attend a Grateful Dead concert, in 1995. It is a story of the strong bond between friends. As the two best friends start their journey, they agree to the following three rules: 1. Never stay in one place more than 5 days, because we don't want to get sucked in, we wanted to always be on the go. 2. Never split up. 3. We have to fend for ourselves. You have to take care of yourself and be there for your friend. As they hitchhike, starting in Eugene, Oregon, they meet a variety of characters ranging from a pimp to a truck driver. They face the dangers of living on the street, such as being mugged and having to cross through areas dominated by gangs. The story also details the generosity and good nature of people. Such as one driver, who initially requested gas money from the teenagers, but who subsequently gave them money, upon hearing their stories. There is the quasi-vigilante, who rescues the teenagers from crack heads and there is the group of homeless men who give the teenagers some money. The story provides humor, such as the teenagers' account of being attacked by a "gang" of raccoons, who actually speak to them. After being temporarily separated during their journey, the story ends with the teenagers being reunited at a Grateful Dead concert. LIGHT JOURNEY is a true story of two friends, who become inseparable, with their friendship continuing to this day.
