Dave Penz dreams of establishing a refuge at Kako, an old gold mine, where the people of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta can rest from the stresses of village life, a place where they'll hear the good news of Jesus Christ. But when his wife dies, his hopes seem shattered. Vera Kelley, a missionary in Fairbanks, has also experienced life-changing tragedy.
