What the latter promises: the best clothes, cars, etc. should certainly bring the love of one's friends and perhaps even the unbounded love of this special one one's heart most desires. The love that is the God of the Christians. Other religions and philosophies, including modern fads, are examined to be found lacking in explaining as well as providing this unconditional love.
