Publisher's Synopsis
This book forms part of the Macmillan Secondary Mathematics course which has been written to correspond to the National Criteria for GCSE Mathematics examinations, and to the Mathematics National Curriculum assessment and testing framework. In particular the X-stream of books are for use of pupils who intend going on to the lower or intermediate levels of the GCSE Mathematics examination.;Book 4X further extends the skills which have already been used in Book 3X. Each chapter contains worked examples, and sets of graded exercises. In addition there are many mathematical investigations which can be used to supplement skills learnt and offer extensions to the exercises. Three revision chapters are included which will also provide additional practice if needed.;In terms of the National Curriculum, the work covered in Book 4X continues the work in Book 3X up to levels 6 and 7. Several topics in level 8 are also included which are required by GCSE syllabuses at the intermediate level. Book 4X covers both the profile components, attributing weight corresponding to the weightings given in the attainment targets. Examples used are in the context of "using and applying mathematics", and are in realistic contexts of everyday life at home and at work, within todays multicultural society.
