In another timeline, created by a critical decision of Alexander the Great, the author exists anyway, the result of some archetype necessitated by the initial conditions of the universe, and no less is true for everything else we know, save a few details from the history books. But by the time the author decided to take a role in influencing the world, cosmic events set in motion by the initial conditions were about to turn those influences into some of the final changes humanity would go through.
