On the day after he was laid up with a Sharp attack of in?ammation of the lungs, attended by his aunt's experienced old doctor - a shrewd hard-headed Scotchman, contemporary with Simpson, Sibson, Fergusson - all the brightest lights in the Caledonian galaxy - and nursed by one of his aunt's old servants.
