Publisher's Synopsis
WE ARE THE SPIRITS OF OUR ANCESTORS:
Centuries ago there was a battle between a group of west African warriors and white slavers. The Africans were defeated, shackled in chains and loaded aboard a waiting ship to be taken to a strange land and used as slaves for the rest of their lives, and the lives of their descendants. The leader of the captured war party was the son of an Ashanti Paramount Chief, who witnessed the scene from a distant mountain. However, the distance was such that they were unable to render help. They could only watched helplessly as his son and brothers were rowed to waiting slave ships and never be seen again. he could only shout these promising words after them.
"My sons, this thunderstorm is the last you'll witness in Africa, for you will never return, only your spirit, my spirit, our father's spirits and the spirits of our ancestors. But this I'll vow to you and the spirits of our ancestors, there'll be no peace on earth until the spirits of our ancestors are returned to Africa."
Those were his parting words, shouted into the dark clouds of an approaching storm and departing slave ship.
