So when Jathis Duruk, an agent of His Graciousness, is exposed to a consciousness-expanding chemical from off-world, it means the potential shattering of a fragile lie. Torn between duty and self-preservation, and pursued at every turn by a sadistic government agent with lust dripping from tooth and blade, Jathis Duruk embarks on a psychedelic journey to reclaim his shadow-self and overcome a mysterious force known as the Agonist of the Id, an amorphous entity that exhumes and amplifies the repressed thoughts of its victims. Its resting place: the asteroid field surrounding the whole of the Numaran solar system. The sole test of salvation. All who have tried have failed. All who enter must first be transformed.
