Publisher's Synopsis

This is the story of a desert, and of one man's love affair with this remote and little-known wilderness in south-western Africa. David Coulson made a number of trips to the Namib over a 15-year period and kept diaries of his experiences. He describes the re-ochred nomads of Kaokoland, the wild thoroughbred horses of Garub, the unique reptiles of the sand dunes, eerie nights spent camping in ghost towns and on the shipwrecks which rear out of the dunes and exploring long-abandoned diamond towns.;The many colour photographs which accompany the text also serve to convey the surreal beauty of this region.
