Born under a curse, Neppita has never looked like her mother or father, or anyone else in the manor at all... except for Arista. The Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen of Witches who presides and guards over the Crystal Veil. Too small and delicate to work with wood, as her clan had done for centuries before her, leaves her feeling as though she does not belong at all. Making it even worse, she must endure the cruel treatment and snarky remarks of Corretta... an older Bwbach teen, from a visiting Clan. Corretta is everything that Neppita would love to be... not only does she have the largest toes of all the young girls she also has the coarsest hair, and the biggest nose. She was also the most popular young girl in Willowwood. Neppita knew that one day she must make her promise to the future Queen, an oath of service that would ensure she could remain at Willowwood Manor forever. But how can she make a promise to serve the Queen if she has no service to offer... or even a beautiful and sparkling gift? When Queen Brigid is attacked by the same Vulkaria who cursed Neppita, she is left with Arista as her only friend, and the Veil is without a Guardian. Neppita knows in her heart something must be done to call the new Queen to the Veil. Locked safely behind the mists, meant to conceal and protect them from both humans and the deamhain, she tries everything she can think of to draw the new Queen home... putting all the love she has into her spell... she hopes it will be enough.
