Publisher's Synopsis
This book examines the pastoral and sacramental work of the very early days of the Church in the British Isles. It is a summing-up of recent scholarship which has uncovered new evidence about the organization and structure of the early Church and the often very close relations between communities of monks and clergy, and between the "Roman" and "Celtic" Churches. It makes clear the ways in which theological ideals were translated into pastoral work and displays the similiarities in the structure of the Church in Ireland, Wales and England.
