Beckett Hapley has always loved reality television for reasons even he doesn't fully get, and has now found a dream role on a new survival show set in the Antarctic, called Essex. His lone friend, Alessa Pallson, plans to watch and support Beckett from Essex, England and watch him pursue his goals. Neither plan goes as expected. A vicious global phenomenon of unknown origin causes the entire planet to freeze over in a silent apocalypse, leaving the two stranded on opposite ends of the world. Further still, strange creatures with otherworldly powers are terrorizing the few who remain, and the prospects for survival worsen with each passing day. Each of them, with their own group of survivors, must face the choice: Persist and find a way to salvation, or perish under mountains of snow.
