Because the actual meaning of idioms differ from the literal meaning of the words used to construct them, idioms are one of the most difficult concepts English Language Learners have to master in order to truly understand our complex language. The hands-on-lessons in this activity book help students understand the meaning of 20 commonly used idioms. For each example given, students are asked to 1) draw the "literal" meaning of the idiom (for example, they are asked to draw "a piece of cake"), 2) explain, in their own words, what they think the idiom means, 3) color an illustrated definition of the idiom's actual meaning and then add this definition to their student created "Idioms Booklets", and 4) define the meaning of the idiom as used within the context of a short story.
