He also expressed his deep personal convio tion' that Providence had raised up Lincoln to meet the emergency wh'ich con-fronted the country - that God had so raised Lincoln to do His work, just as He had centuries before provide'd Cyrus and Moses and other great fig ures in the written history of man.
