Schools and Society, Third Edition is a comprehensive, integrated overview of the sociology of education geared toward upper-level undergraduate courses in sociology of education, foundations of education, social contexts of education or related courses taught in sociology or education departments. It may be used as a text by itself or as a supplement to another text.
The book includes original readings and article excerpts by leaders in field and includes theory, methods, classical and current issues By organizing the book around a theme - the open systems approach - the articles are integrated to give an holistic view of educational systems. The articles are tied together by introductions to each part in the system.
