Publisher's Synopsis

Born in Boston in 1809, Edgar Allan Poe struggled for most of his life to earn his living entirely through his writings. His most famous poem, "The Raven," earned him only $9 when it was published in 1845. His wife, Virginia, died two years after its publication, which seems to have sent Poe into a downward spiral of alcohol abuse and erratic behavior. Poe himself died only two years after Virginia, in 1849, at the age of 40.

This bilingual edition of some of the most famous of Poe's short stories is designed to assist those learning French. The original English text appears on the left-hand pages of the book, with the corresponding French translation on the right-hand pages.

Included in this collection: The Raven, The Cask of Amontillado, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Purloined Letter, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Black Cat.

Other bilingual books available from Sleeping Cat Books:
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Fables of Jean de La Fontaine
Candide
Shakespeare's Sonnets
New Fairy Tales for Small Children
The Count of Monte Cristo (Unabridged)
