Publisher's Synopsis
This is a great short story collection which focuses upon how bridges can be built between people, even in what might sometimes appear the most difficult of circumstances. By turns enlightening, humorous, tragic but always very human, the author treats her characters with sympathy, inviting the reader to be more understanding of events, to see beneath the veneer of life situations.
The first story begins on a bridge, where an African-American woman named Claire saves a white girl. Claire shares a light of acceptance and love beyond the grasp of most people. This leads to a friendship between races that was uncommon at the time; it bridges the racial divide and leads to an unexpected future. The second story delves into incidents that help Rayden, a wealthy, spoiled man, build a bridge to a challenging but ultimately better life. The last is a heartwarming story involving homeless people. All are very well-written with great characters.
