Der seit seiner Kindheit gehorlose Kunstler (geb. 1910) stammt aus dem oberpfalzischen Floss. 1940 floh er, wie Tausende anderer europaischer Juden, vor den nationalsozialistischen Juden-verfolgungen in die ostchinesische Hafenstadt Shanghai. Trotz der schwierigen Lebensbedingungen als Fluchtling schuf David Ludwig Bloch dort ein reichhaltiges Werk von fast 300 Holzschnitten.
