Publisher's Synopsis
The Song of Solomon is an eyewitness account of the stormy conciliatory marriage between King Nabonidus of Babylon and Nitocris, an Egyptian princess. Written by a woman who lived at court with the couple, its veneer of romantic language belies a darker reality. Nabonidus desired to reinstate a female priesthood at Ur, in honour of his lunar deity, S?n; Nitocris was a high-priestess of Amun-Re, the solar deity, and the vessel for an exclusive and esoteric blood rite. Being initiated into her cultic ways, Nabonidus became addicted and therein lies the foundation of the legends of a deviant Solomon. The Song provides a chronological depiction of the couple's marital battle, including specific dates and allusions to historical details known from other sources.
