When his friend and car go missing the same day his boss is found murdered, Max Donovan embarks on an investigation of his own in the hopes of rescuing his friend and locating his displaced vehicle. His inquiries lead him through the dark underbelly of Pale Saints, to a tavern whose patrons all believe they have died and been reborn and are currently wandering through the afterlife; one of whom, a beautiful and mysterious young girl, just happens to be the last person to see Max's friend alive. The days that follow push Max to his mental and physical limitations as he descends deep into the abyss, encountering an existential rock band and a secret society who believe they have the cure for the human condition, as he attempts to make sense of a world that has become unrecognizable. But the abyss is deeper and darker than Max could ever imagine. And once he goes in, he may never come out again.
