Publisher's Synopsis

Small Point is a village within the town of Phippsburg, near the site of the first European settlement of 1607. The setting is spectacular: three miles of Seawall Beach to the east, and Small Point Harbor and Hermit Island to the west. It was the home of two of Maine's governors, Bodwell and Sewall. Residents are a mix of old families going back to 1750 and members of the summer community, dating from 1880--two close-knit and very different communities. The author spent summers there from birth and is now a year-round resident. He knew many of the people in this book.

Tom Hinkle is a professional artist, and this book is illustrated with his Small Point scenes and with old photographs. When not painting or writing, he restores historic houses. This book contains his thoughts about architecture, covering three centuries. It is his history as well as that of Small Point.
