We have chosen more than 100 players and managers from the world's top five leagues: the Bundesliga in Germany, La Liga in Spain, France's Ligue 1, the Italian Serie A, and the English Premier League.
You can use this book to figure out who you think the best performers are, or you could even get together with friends and play a sort of trading-cards game, comparing the performance records of today's finest defenders, midfielders, forwards, goalkeepers, and managers.
The types of stats featured for each position vary, as each position performs a specific role on the field. For example, a defender's main job is to stop the opposition from scoring, so the stats focus mainly on this part of their game. Likewise, a striker's tackling is not as relevant as their goals or assists tally. What you will find for all the players is the heat map, which shows how much of the field a player covers or, with goalkeepers, whether their strengths lie in the six-yard box or playing as sweeper keepers who are comfortable all around the penalty area.
The stats span a player's career to date, playing for teams belonging to one of the top five European leagues. The figures have been collected from domestic league and European match appearances only, and exclude data from domestic cup, super cups, and international games. This narrow data pool means that the information is instantly comparable so you can decide for yourself who truly deserves to be known as a living legend of the beautiful game.
