Tia and Tamera are teenage African-American twins who were adopted at birth into different families. Tamera lives in an affluent suburb with her single father, a conservative businessman. Tia lives in the city with her single mother, an outspoken seamstress. When the girls discover each other at the mall one day, they persade their very different parents that they should all live together - with some very funny results.
Fun-loving Tamera is tired of being in the shadow of superbrain Tia. She auditions for the school play and lands the lead role opposite a gorgeous co-star. But her moment in the spotlight is short-lived when the director replaces her with Tia
