Publisher's Synopsis

In this first book, Gordon S. Bowman III displays two types of creative writing: Part 1 contains more straight-ahead poetry, while Part 2 consists of a type of poetry invented 20 years ago, while he was in college at Florida State University. He calls it, "unpoetry." It is a type of creative writing that Gordon considers, in some ways, the opposite of poetry, if not in meaning, then at least in process. Words are chosen to defy conscious meaning, as a means to discover what the subconscious has to offer. Gordon describes it on his blog as "sort of an absurd collage of seemingly unrelated words...a collage of pieces, that, if they were visual material, would be chosen for their shape, size or color, not their content." He goes on to say that "words are chosen for how they look, sound, or, perhaps, feel...in an effort to avoid conscious meaning...with bizarre juxtapositions of words to push the poem more into absurdity." For more on "unpoetry," as well as many more examples, go to Gordon's blog at http: //gsb3.net. Gordon recently published several poems in a collection of poetry by "Big Bend Poets" of North Florida, called "Along the Forgotten Coast: Selected Poems." Gordon's creative writing blog by the same name as this book is located at http: //gsb3.net. His writings include poetry, essay and fiction.
