This is one of the most beautiful early works of Yannis Ritsos, composed in 1938 during his convalescence in the Parnitha tuberculosis sanatorium. Written with a plain and clear language, nourished by fertile dream images that refer to the landscapes, colors, sounds, aromas and sensations of his childhood, the poet gives voice to his personal anguish while exploring the promises that the exuberance of Nature announces to him, drawing on surrealism to break with traditional Greek poetry: "Tomorrow the sun's birthday and the sun is our age, we celebrate that we have a birthday on the same day as the sun - every day."
