Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Texas and the Gulf of Mexico

The Yacht had been often described to me, and yet I was surprised at the size of her cabins, and the extreme comfort of her internal arrangements.

I was met by the Master and the Doctor, and on going below found a most enjoyable state cabin, quantities of books, and in short every enjoyment which a reasonable woman could require. My own cabin was large, with two sofas, the bed being a swinging cot, which was taken down in the daytime. My first night on board was spent in the docks, as we intended to leave them at daybreak. No ships I believe ever sail, when they ought to do so, or rather at the time originally fixed for their departure; and to this rule, ours was no exception. The middle of August was the time when we had intended to have taken our leave of England; but so many alterations, and improvements had been required for the vessel, that the 13th of September had arrived before we were in readiness to leave Blackwall.
