The articles in this book explore the ways in which struggles to establish the boundaries of a nation affect texts, and how these texts are in turn narrated by them. The contributions are cross-disciplinary in approach, and written by scholars from a variety of fields, including African/American studies, art history, comparative literature, linguistics and philosophy.;Each essay explores the relationship between national identity and textual genres such as literature, music, the visual arts, and language. There is a particular emphasis on the need to understand how the end of the Cold War has affected interpretations of national and cultural identities.
