Publisher's Synopsis

""The Bohemian Girl"" is an opera in three acts composed by Michael William Balfe in 1843. The libretto was written by Alfred Bunn and is based on a story by Augustin Daly. The story is set in the 18th century and follows the adventures of a young gypsy girl named Arline, who is kidnapped by a nobleman named Thaddeus. Thaddeus falls in love with Arline but is eventually forced to flee the country due to political unrest. Arline is left behind and is taken in by a wealthy family who raise her as their own. Years later, Thaddeus returns to reclaim his love and is faced with the challenge of convincing Arline of his true identity. The opera is known for its beautiful melodies and emotional performances, particularly in the aria ""I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls"". ""The Bohemian Girl"" has been performed countless times around the world and remains a beloved classic of the operatic repertoire. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
