After five years of legal formalities and enforced residence in gossip-ridden Pickax, Jim Qwilleran has finally inherited the Klingenschoen fortune. In search of a summer's peace in which to decide what to do next, Qwill and his two Siamese companions, Koko and Yum Yum, head for the Potato Mountains. Rather than solitude, Qwill quickly finds controversy.
