In order to fix the student's attention and strengthen his legal knowledge, I have appended Explanatory Notes, which show the analogy that exists between the Laws of France and the leading principles of the Roman law, purposely omitting all reference to those obsolete rules which are foreign to the legis lation of modern Europe.
