Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Development and Present Aspects of Stereo-Chemistry Aspects Stereo-Chemistry
The foundation for much that is now accepted in stereo chemical theories was laid by Pasteur in 1860 - 61. In his Recherches sur la dissymetrie moleculaire des pr'oduits organiques naturels, he referred the peculiar optical isome rism of the tartaric acids to a lack of symmetry in the mole cule, just as optical activity in crystals is referred to a lack of symmetry in the crystalline individual.
