The book is not, in itself, about feminine mythology but contributors narrate the major myths involving women and explore their meanings from a feminist perspective. The book is organized by culture ranging from Europe, the Middle East, India, the Far East, North and South America to Australia and New Zealand - each section outlining the mythological system of that culture, naming the important figures and more minor figures and discussing their meanings for women then, in the past and now.
