Publisher's Synopsis
This is a true-life story of how one man found freedom from a life of crime, prison, drugs, alcohol, violence and hatred. It's a short read but a powerful one. Excerpt from the back page: My name is James Sherwood Bennett but all my life I've been called Jimmie. When I was 12 years old my brother kicked a can of burning gasoline on me and I became a human torch. Two-thirds of my body was burned to the third degree. To save my life, the doctors literally skinned me alive to remove the dead skin. Whatever hope in life I may have had until then was suddenly extinguished. My family life was already one filled with terror and constant fighting, and now I looked and felt like a freak. I was ridiculed from the moment I came home from the hospital. The humiliation and embarrassment I felt as a young teenager was so intense that at times I could hardly speak. To numb the pain I felt inside, I started hanging out with an older group of troubled kids and soon I was doing drugs and stealing. My life continued to spiral downhill until I ended up in juvenile prison at age 14. By then, I was filled with hatred -- for myself and for everyone around me. Life became a desperate, lonely existence. When a friend asked me if I would help him rob and kidnap some drug dealers across the country, I said sure. We did and we got caught. Now at age 24, I was in jail facing charges up to 350 years. Then something amazing happened that changed the course of my life forever. From the way my life was going, I should be lying dead in a gutter somewhere. But God in His amazing grace had a different plan for me. This is my story -- a story of how God took a scarred, angry, hate-filled man and transformed him into one who offers hope to others who are also hurting and lost in utter darkness.
