Publisher's Synopsis

The Island of Dr. Moreau is a science fiction novel written by H.G. Wells. The story is about a shipwrecked man named Edward Prendick who is rescued by a passing ship and taken to an island where he meets a scientist named Dr. Moreau. Dr. Moreau has been conducting experiments on animals, attempting to turn them into human-like beings. Prendick soon discovers that the island is inhabited by these ""beast men"" and that Dr. Moreau's experiments have gone horribly wrong. As Prendick tries to escape the island, he is faced with the terrifying reality that the beast men have developed their own religion and are becoming increasingly violent. The novel explores themes of evolution, morality, and the limits of science. It is considered a classic work of science fiction and has been adapted into several films and television shows.BUT the islanders, seeing that I was really adrift, took pity on me. I drifted very slowly to the eastward, approaching the island slantingly; and presently I saw, with hysterical relief, the launch come round and return towards me.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
