Errors are transmitted like diseases. The inaccurate rendering of the Hebrew word Torah by law, for which we are indebted to our Greek - speaking writers, has all along been a barrier in the way of the Christian theo logian. It has prevented him effectually from under standing the system of rabbinism as a Whole, but espe cially from understanding the Specific ideal of rabbinism which is summed up in the term Talmud Torah, the study of the Torah. The most deplorable aspect of this lack of comprehension is that it has not remained without effect upon the Jews themselves, at least so far as the development of post-talmudic Judaism is concerned.
