Publisher's Synopsis
Deeply influencing Nobel Prize winner Steinbeck's ocean exploration journey. At the end of the 1930s, Steinbeck met the marine biologist Ricketts. The two set out in 1940 for the Sea of Curtiz (now the Gulf of California) for a two-week ecological collection. The records during the period were published as The Sea of Curtiz in 1951. In addition to collecting and exploring, Steinbeck and Ricketts also exchanged many discussions and ideas about science, philosophy, and various humanistic observations during this trip. Ricketts focuses on the ecosystem of the coastal intertidal zone.
