Author Kimberly Mathis Pitts, a native of Sylva, North Carolina, completed a B.A. in Spanish from Western Carolina University. She earned a M.A. in Latin American Studies and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of New Mexico. With over 20 years of experience in bilingual education, she has taught elementary, high school, and college courses in Mexico and the United States.
