The object of this thesis is to investigate the soundness of the assumption that synchronous impedance is a constant quantity. The investigation is made by determining experimentally the value of this quantity under various conditions of loading. An attempt is made to analyse the effect of different factors on synchronous impedance, namely, variable armature current under constant field excitation; variable armature current under constant terminal pressure: and variable power factor.
