1960. Newly married to her adored husband Gianni Romano, Cathy hopes life will offer her further joy. But a miscarriage, and the escape of her abusive stepfather Jack Dawson from prison, make happiness hard to find. Catching up with some of her old midwifery friends, Cathy learns that they are planning to open a maternity home for private clients, in addition to looking after unmarried mothers. All they need is a suitable property and sufficient finance. Cathy looks forward to joining them once her training is finished. But then her beloved grandmother dies, leaving Cathy bereft. And Jack is spotted in Liverpool. It's only a matter of time until he catches up with Cathy, determined to pay her back for getting him locked up. Can she keep herself safe, and see Jack sent away for good at last?
